2027 Jeep Recon: What Changed, What It Costs, and What to Know Before You Order

Boone County has plenty of back roads and weekends to fill, and the Recon is the Jeep that takes its doors off without a drop of gas.

The Jeep Recon is the first Jeep EV built to lose its doors, and the 2027 model year is where the lineup starts to grow. The Recon Moab launched at $66,995 with destination, Jeep now rates it at 670 horsepower, and a second trim, the Overland, is due early in 2027. (You will see some outlets and dealers call the Moab a 2027 already; Jeep's launch pricing lists it as a 2026.) Here is what changed, what carried over, and what the Recon costs, drives like, and charges like.

2027 Jeep Recon Changes vs. the 2026 Launch Model

The Overland trim is the headline addition. Jeep says it will carry a 2027 model year and arrive early next year with an estimated 240 miles of range, compared with the Moab's EPA-rated 222 miles. Jeep has not published Overland pricing or a full equipment list, so treat anything beyond the range estimate as unconfirmed.

The numbers moved after launch. Jeep's current specifications list 670 horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque, up from the 650 horsepower first announced, with a claimed 0–60 mph time of 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 112 mph. Range moved the other way: Jeep first talked about up to 250 miles, trimmed the Moab estimate to 230, and the EPA rated the Moab at 222.

What Stayed the Same

Nearly everything else carries over. The Recon rides on the unibody STLA Large platform with one 250-kilowatt electric drive module on each axle, a 100.5-kWh battery on a 400-volt system, and full-time four-wheel drive (with no low range). The rear axle keeps its electronic locking differential, the Moab keeps its 33-inch all-terrain tires and 9.1 inches of ground clearance, and the doors, rear glass, and swing-out tailgate with a full-size spare all return.

2027 Jeep Recon Price

The Recon Moab starts at $65,000 before a $1,995 destination charge, which makes $66,995 with destination. Options add up quickly (the one-touch power roof alone runs close to $2,000, according to Autoblog), and reviewers report a fully optioned Moab approaching $78,000. Jeep has not announced Overland pricing, so check back or ask us for the latest number.

Range and Charging

Range is the Recon's trade-off. The 100.5-kWh battery earns an EPA-rated 222 miles in the Moab and an estimated 240 miles in the coming Overland, which is less than some rivals offer (reviewers cite 300-plus miles for the Rivian R2). On a DC fast charger, Jeep quotes about 28 minutes to go from 5% to 80%. The Recon uses a CCS1 charge port, so Tesla Supercharger stations need an adapter. At home, a 240-volt Level 2 charger takes roughly 6.8 hours to go from 5% to 80%.

Performance and Off-Road Capability

The Recon is quick for an off-roader and serious about trails. Two electric motors make 670 horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque, and the rear axle carries a 15:1 final drive for low-speed grip. Trail Rated hardware includes 9.1 inches of ground clearance, a 33.8-degree approach angle, a 33.1-degree departure angle, a 23.3-degree breakover angle, and the ability to ford up to 24 inches of water. The Moab adds a Rock mode to Jeep's Selec-Terrain system, and up to seven skid plates are available. Towing is rated at up to 3,300 lbs, with 850 lbs of payload.

Open-Air Design, Interior, and Tech

The open-air design is the Recon's biggest selling point. The doors come off (about 70 pounds each in front and 60 in back), the rear glass lifts out, and a power-folding fabric roof is available. Inside, a 14.5-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch driver display handle the controls, and Alpine speakers sit under the seats so the sound holds up with the doors off. The Recon seats five, with 30.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row and 65.9 with it folded.

When Can You Get a 2027 Jeep Recon?

The Moab is on sale now in limited quantities, and the Overland is due early in 2027.

How the Recon Compares

The Recon trades range for capability. Jeep's own Wagoneer S shares the Recon's battery and reaches up to 294 miles, but it rides on about 6 inches of clearance and street tires. Mercedes-Benz's G 580 climbs even better and manages 239 EPA miles at a price of about $163,000. The Recon sits between them: an open-air electric Jeep with real trail hardware at a fraction of the G 580's price.
